About the Project The Caribbean voluntary and community sector is well established in the city and there are a number of organisations already providing a wide range of services for the community such as:
Single parents
Young people who are underachieving in schools
People with mental illness
The elderly
Unemployment and training of young people between the ages of 16-19
Many of the partner organisations are run entirely by volunteers and are delivering services that are of hugely significant value to the community. In common with Voluntary and Community sector organisations, the long term future of most of these organisations is in doubt. Some are funded by time limited funding much of which is disappearing and others are not funded at all. While new funding opportunities are coming on stream the process for bidding, managing and reporting are far more complicated than the straight forward grant/service level agreements that they replace.
The Capacity Builders Partnership will provide training, support and advise organisations to be better able to compete for funding. Ultimately we would like to devise a funding strategy for African Caribbean Organisations in Coventry. The overall aim is to build the capacity of Caribbean organisations and establish a pool of informed people in the community that will be sufficiently confident to take on the challenges that the new commissioning culture will bring and to also be able to pass this knowledge on to others.
The project is under the direction of Angela Knight who has been appointed the Project Coordinator. Angela has over 15 years experience of working with the Voluntary and Community Sector.
